An insured tiler was diagnosed with colon cancer. They were unfit to work due to ongoing treatment, which included chemotherapy and radiation, and ceased trading in July 2022.

The insurer reviewed supporting evidence—which included medical documents and Medicare records—and determined that the cancer was not a preexisting condition.

The tiler received an initial payment of $35,000 to cover the period from when they stopped working to when indemnity was granted (March 2023). They then received a weekly benefit payment of $1,000 until July 2023 when the benefit period ended.
